Register a member
There are 2 ways for members to register with the Makerspace. Administrators can manually register a member, or members can register themselves with admins adding a key to their account afterwards.
Manually Registering a Member:
- Grab a registration packet from the “Member Contracts” wooden box on the lobby wall. This should include an orientation packet and parking sticker that can be found in the same location as the keyfobs in the filing cabinet. If we are low on any of these please print or request more
- In person, ask the new member to review and sign the Member Contract. This is a good time to check the member's ID. The member must have some form of ID that verifies their name and address. Combinations of different forms ID are acceptable. If the member does not have any forms of ID, YOU MAY NOT ISSUE THEM A KEY; they must return at a later date before being granted a key.
- Get a new keyfob from the filing cabinet. Notify the board if we are low on keyfobs (<10 remaining)
- Scan the new fob at the front door. The scanner should blink red when completed.
- Login to https://members.manchestermakerspace.org as an admin user.
- Using the “hamburger” menu in the upper right hand corner, navigate to “Members”.
- Click the blue button in the upper left hand corner labelled “Create New Member”.
- Fill out the member’s details, and select the checkbox indicating the member signed the Member Contract. The email address used here will be used to invite the member to Slack and Google Drive.
- Submit the form, which should redirect you to the new member’s profile page.
- If you have not already, you MUST check the member's ID. The member must have some form of ID that verifies their name and address. Combinations of different forms ID are acceptable. If the member does not have any forms of ID, YOU MAY NOT ISSUE THEM A KEY; they must return at a later date before being granted a key.
- Click the blue “Register Fob” button, which opens a form to register a new fob for this member.
- Click the blue “Import New Key” button, which replaces the red “No Card Found” message with green numbers representing the fob’s unique ID. If green number does not appear, rescan fob at front door. For repeated issues importing the fob, check the #doorboto-private Slack channel for issues scanning the fob or contact support.
- Click “Import New Key”
- Submit the form to return to the profile. Note, the blue “Register Fob” button is now white and says “Replace Fob”, indicating you’ve successfully registered the key.
- Click the blue “Renew” button to open the renewal form.
- Select the term that the member paid for from the dropdown and submit the form.
- Membership is now active and key is registered. Give key to member and have them try it at the front door to make sure it works.
- Give them an orientation of the space. It’s important to remember you are shaping how comfortable someone is going to be with using the space. Make sure they understand where the lights are and our policy around the fire door. Double check what their needs will be in the space and see if its necessary/possible to assist them to achieve their checkout goals or find the resources that they need.
Member Self-Registration:
- Members can go to members.manchestermakerspace.org and select “Register” to sign up themselves.
- Review the sign up instructions for the process the member will complete for self-registration
- Once the member has signed up and signed the member contract, login to the service as an admin user.
- Using the “hamburger” menu in the upper right hand corner, navigate to “Members”.
- Using the search box in the upper left hand corner, search for the member by name or email (accepts partial searches, useful if full search shows no results)
- Find the member in the table and click on their name to navigate to their profile.
- Complete steps 10 - 16 above to register a key, start their membership and give them an orientation.
